How true that is! Can you recall your last big belly laugh, the last time you just burst out into laughter? Tears rolling down your face, laughing so hard that your cheeks actually started to hurt. Did you know that it was actually good for you? Yep, the best medicine is laughter!

Think about how good you felt after laughing, how light you felt, how positive your whole being was. Having a good sense of humor and enjoying a good laugh are excellent ways to relieve stress. The ability to view life through a lens of humor is an indispensable tool. Not only is laughing good for well-being but research shows it's also good for your heart.

Did you know that a recent study at the university of Maryland found that 40% of those with heart disease were less likely to laugh at certain events compared with others at the same age without heart disease? Isn't that interesting? Researchers also point out that they don't fully understand why laughter protects the heart but they do know that mental stress creates problems with the protective barrier lining our blood vessels. And laughter relieves mental stress! I guess the best medicine is laughter - as far as the heart is concerned.

Laughing is also an excellent way to release our emotional stress. Can you really be sad and laugh at the same time? Wayne Dyer says - "It is impossible for you to be angry and laugh at the same time. Anger and laughter are mutually exclusive and you have the power to choose either." I would have to agree with him, wouldn't you?

What an extremely powerful thing laughter is for us. If you really want to improve your health and emotions - learn to laugh! Try to make yourself laugh everyday. Watch comedies, read funny stories, hang around with people that make you laugh. Do this and you will significantly improve your physical body and immune system.
